Poker Rules

Poker is a card game that has simple rules and different variations. The poker rules will vary with its different versions which can be stud poker, community poker, and five-card draw poker. The most common poker game played by a lot of people is the five-card draw; a standard deck of cards with fifty-two playing cards is used.

The individual cards are categorized from highest to lowest which is as follows: Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, and 2. For short, the Aces have a higher value than kings, and kings have a higher value than queens, and queens have a higher value than Jacks, and so on and so forth. There are four types of suits for the cards, the Clubs, Diamonds, Hearts, and Spades –there are no ranking with suits, and thus a king of diamonds is equal to a king of spades.

The rules of poker is uncomplicated; just remember that the basic poker rule and the main objective of the game is to achieve the highest value “poker hand” ranked as the following from highest to lowest: Royal Flush, Five of a Kind, Straight Flush, Four of a Kind, Full House, Flush, Straight, Three of a Kind, Two Pair, One Pair, and High Card. The rarer the poker hand is, the more valuable it is.

Prior to the start of the game, players should decide on their betting limit. Perhaps among the most essential poker rules, is to know how much to put out and when to stop. Remember, poker is a game of chance; having a “boundary” to the amount of money you’d want to bet from the start, will set you on the right track -if the cards are telling you the chances are slim, then it’ll always save you loses to “fold” at the right time. Every beginner poker rule is straightforward, learn the basics:

Every player puts am “ante” into the pot before cards are dealt. The ante may be any amount, and is needed to guarantee that there will always be a “win” on every hand.

Once every player has placed their ante, the “dealer” deals the cards face-down round the table; beginning from the player to the left of the dealer, continuing clockwise. At all times, the dealer will deal the card for himself last, and deals all the players a first card, going back around the players circle for the second card, and so on.

When all the players have been dealt five cards, the remaining deck is laid in the table’s center, and the game commences. Every player looks at the cards that they have without letting anybody see them; the first player then puts his bet.

While there are several methods of deciding who will bet first, beginners will be better off if they allow the player on the dealer’s left to put the first bet. On the next hand, the player to the left of the person who betted first will do the first bet, and so on, this goes around the table for every new hand.

For the first betting round, players have a number of options. If nobody has place a bet yet, the player has two options: open and check. If there has been no betting when it’s your turn, then you can “open” the pot, allowing you to place the first bet with any amount within the “betting limit” of the game. The chance to “check” is only allowed when nobody else has opened the round of betting and it’s your turn to decide on what to do. To “check” means you don’t want to open the bet, while not wanting to quit either.

Poker is a game of skill and psychology as well, observing how other players play and taking that as an experience to evaluate the opponent for every hand, will help you make the right moves. The poker rules are simple, but it will take a lot of practice and development of skills for a beginner to learn on how to handle their cards; as always practice makes perfect.
