Poker Shows

The days when poker was simply played as a pastime activity with friends in the patio or back rooms have long been gone; its popularity has exploded not only in casinos and the internet, but in televisions as well. Today, it’s rare that one can’t see coverage of big poker tournaments or even just a simple instructional poker show on television. The various cable TV channels with its wide variety of poker shows, has fueled the popularity of the long-time classic card game of poker.

If there’s one thing that’s appealing to viewers about poker TV shows is that, it is presented in a really relatively easy-to-learn approach. The majority of TV poker have introduction at the start, explaining the basics of the game including the various “hands” and betting processes that a “would-be” player should learn.

Essentially, these poker shows allows a viewer to practice the game while actually watching how it works, so they can start to play. Of course, it’s not saying that they’ll fantastically do well right away, but they’ll have quite a good idea about the game. As the common saying goes in poker “it only takes five minutes to learn, but a lifetime to master”.

A greatly attributed factor to the success of poker shows, especially the one’s in tournaments, is the “hole camera” used. This “hole camera” has lens in every seat of players that allows a home viewer to watch the cards that every player holds. In this method, a viewer is able to watch the action unfold, while learning from what players act. Additionally, the hosts of the poker show often explain the possible actions that they expect players of the game to do, basing on every player’s action, and so viewers get somewhat a number of playing tips.

Texas Hold’Em poker is aired in major television networks like ESPN, The Travel Channel, and Bravo. Tournaments, world championship games, and even poker shows with celebrity players are also broadcasted by several TV networks. Poker shows are often hosted by existing poker players, a lot of whom are exceptionally successful in their field; media coverage on these host players have turned a lot of them into mini-celebrities.

Poker’s TV popularity has caused certain chain reactions into other areas outside television. A lot of casinos that didn’t offer poker previously nowadays hold tournaments as well. Poker related things in retail sales have also surged such as poker tables, poker chips, poker decors, and including huge variety of books about poker that a few years ago would have only been a few.

It is undeniable that television has nurtured poker into its present spot among the favorite television shows. Primetime TV can rarely be complete with no primer shows of poker and televised tournaments. TV networks have indeed maximized the boom of poker, creating various types of poker shows that would bring in a decent profit along the way.

Celebrity poker tournaments are among the well-watched poker shows, as viewers cheer for their favorite famous personalities trying to outwit one another in a series of televised tournaments. The celebrity does not have to be a really good player, as long as they’re really famous and knows the basics of poker, they’re a good contender. These types of poker shows are actually more for the masses appreciation rather than the delight of poker experts.

Poker is a very challenging and exciting game that more and more people are starting to enjoy. With its continuing “rush” in televisions and the media, it will be no surprise if poker shows stays for years to come, earning more ratings and profits for various networks.
